Train Trails in BayArea | Weekend excursion ideas

Seems like the festival times are set down. Though I havent been able to see a consistent fall transition in Bayarea, but nights are definitely seeing a fall in temperature. Its certainly somewhere around! While some might already be on with their holiday plans, the others must be having the unwelcomed planning jitters! Now that traveling in public places is slowly picking up its pace and we all have considered masks as our happy accessory; why not find some more interesting ways to have great outdoor times this time around and break the festival driven “stay in the house for dinner fiesta” ties! Let me give you my idea then maybe you can give yours..

In present time the things are getting automated and more refined but steam engine will still remain the father or mother of all the #TrainEngines and no one’s quest for train rides will be complete; irrespective of their age, without a ride in a steam-train. If you havent had one, then what are you waiting for, my friend. The hype is real!

In this post I am sharing my experience as a ‘parent’ of two toddlers in 2021, who were able to successfully execute a plan of a train-ride in a steam train of “RedWood Forest” recording it as one finest experience in life!

Reasons behind such a wonderful experience

  1. Location – #RedwoodForrestSteamTrain
  2. A good 75-min ride with a 10-12 mins break in the middle for – stretching, toilet runs and exploring the redwood trees
  3. The audio-guide was very clear & engaging
  4. The Route – ride through the winding route amongst the historic redwoods, railroads and forest
  5. Covid safety measures followed by both parties – us, the passengers and them, the whole extraordinary team on their side
  6. The ever so enrapturing – Narrow gauge steam Engine!
  7. Everyone’s cooperation on the ride which is commendable too on a hot California day!
  8. There’s a huge parking ahead at the entrance so getting a spot wasnt a problem even on a busy festival day like it was to our surprise
  9. Clean, well managed toilets right before the boarding point and in the middle of the ride

It was a wonderful experience and I cannot stress enough!

Things to remember –

  • Carry some fuel like water bottle for yourself and kids because hydration is essential in bayarea’s known dry climate
  • Pack some snacks for the ride to enjoy the ride one step further
  • Check the weather/temperature ahead to see if you will need extra layers

Rest is all taken care of beautifully.

How did we book?

We booked via https://www.roaringcamp.com/ site which has several options for train rides apart from Redwood Forest Train.

Cost (as on this date)

  • Adults ( Ages 13 and up ) – $33 per person
  • Kids (Ages 2-12) – $24

Now enjoy some pictures and a video on my youtube channel linked here I recorded for keepsake. Dont forget to mention & share your own experiences of your favorite steam train rides that left memories with you because there isnt anything like a good memory.

Have a wonderful day!
