Happy Holidays!

We all wait for this time of the year - holiday season!

Sharing our amazing - Thanksgiving in the woods!

"They say the temperature is rising, global warming is taking over every corner we go, but holiday’s will still hold their special meaning for every generation and the generations to come. And what gets these holidays going is a party attitude and my dears, it aint a party like a party in the woods! We were four families from different hoods strung by the same cause – lets get celebrative! And ofcourse wanted to see some snow in the ever so breathtaking - Tahoe! Some said there is no snow yet, and those were mere Chinese whispers as snow started to give us a peak right when we made our way towards South Lake Tahoe. Mountains and mammals have a strange connection which spikes the adrenaline rush to greater levels than one can comprehend in any given lifetime. Out of all things that one can possibly do, the simplest “walking amongst the snow laden mountains” satisfies the inevitable quest for something new/change! Suddenly everything becomes so small because the beauty of nature takes over everything and when there’s woody smell of pine served at every step, you will the gush of emotions and more like a kid! "

It was a great plan that we made, and it was executed more beautifully than imagined – thanks to the kids who brought some unexpected, and highly amusing challenges on the floor, wherever we stepped! It tickled the funny bone nerve in all & the much taboo-ed frantic too.

Best things were –

  • jugalbandhi of Hindi and English by grow-ups and kids
  • the holiday home – “Aspen Creekside Lodge”, fully loaded property to host a party of 4 independent families with views that stick to the heart
  • pointless jibber jabber by not-kids alone
  • man, women and kids, everyone worked hands-in-hands (if not literally)
  • karaoke night with our in-house guitarist & we got some trained (classical) singers too who are gaining back their lost stamina
  • hot home-made “thanksgiving” dinner, three nights in a row including barbeque (yes we planned ahead)
  • snow fights in full swing
  • Poker, Pool & Movie-night – success in all areas

Note – If its Ed Shreeran who got the party started, its Arijit Singh who got it going. However, music wasn’t limited to any era because it went as far as Rafi’s very melodious – Gulabi Aankhen

Things left to next holiday – • Mountain sports, that even beginners can enjoy any recommendations, readers? • Mountain Biking • Hot tub, regret this one! • Dance..

Now, here are few things that could be shared for anyone who needs more takeaways from this article besides the undying ‘holiday spirits’ and team spirit –

  1. Know the place in advance – familiarity helps; so, a change doesn’t chain you, or the group! A simple search for weather on your digital device helps. Do it 2 days in advance and on the same day of the trip. And do it for the 2 weeks before and a week later starting from the day the trip begins. It helps you prepare better because the predictive analysis used on these search results are the reason why search engines rule the internet/world wide web.
  2. If you plan to cook or if you must – check how far or close the grocery stores or supermarkets are from your point-of-stay?
  3. The kind of shoes that work or doesn’t work in snow –

Does Work because of traction (strong grip), waterproofing, ankle support and insulated (warm) lining –

Shoes that dont work (well)– Sneakers, Ugg’s, or any flat, light weight like PVC unless you want to put  your balancing skills and a few others to death defying stunts. Though you can still

make them work if – hold a wooden stick, walk slow and grip yourself well into

              already taken steps/paths.

  1. Keep a snow chain handy
  2. If you are old-school, carry the updated map of the places you are covering, or the tech-savvy’s download the latest in advance. It helps to speed up things and not lose the daylight!
  3. Carry some chocolates because reasons … are left for you to share in the comments.

Wishing you all a very happy holiday season!
